What is a web scraper?

Scrapers pretty much mean they pay an external service which goes to google maps and other app maps and picks up local businesses that appear on there.

Scraper then goes to your website and looks for an email and phone number and compiles that into a list for the spammer.

Rarely who will call you on a phone number so in most cases you can grab a relief there but email spam they absolutely love and often you will receive the typical same old offers like ranking your website first on Google, promising ridiculous profits if you work with them and so on.

Spammer later downloads that csv list from the scraper puts into his email sending service which could be any of the apps such as Fluent CRM, Brevo, MailChimp and so on you get the point.

Easiest way to stop email spam

Very first thing you should opt-in to do is remove your email from the website. Whoever requires your attention can send you an email through a guided website form or live chat.

Below you can see a typical bad case of displaying your email, I randomly searched for an accountant in London. And if I paid a scraper right now I would easily get their email to then use in my spam services later.

If you do not have a lot of leads, if your inbox is relatively empty and you do not receive a lot of spam you most likely do not need to do this right away, rather leave your email open.
